The Highlands is one of Louisville’s oldest neighborhoods. In the Highlands, you will find many historic homes for sale. Homes in the Highlands range from $20,000 to over a million dollars! Many of the homes in the Highlands that are over $500,000 can be found in Castlewood and Cherokee Triangle. The Highlands area is generally thought to extend from Bardstown Road to Trevilian Way to Baxter Avenue and Lexington Road. Most of the individuals that live in the Highlands are in the highest income bracket out of the rest of Louisville residents. Also, the Highlands has the higher number of Louisville residents with higher-education degrees out of any other area. In the Highlands, a large majority of the residents are college students. The majority of these college students live in the section of the Highlands that is closest to Downtown Louisville (Elliott, n.d.).

SHOPPING AND DINING IN THE HIGHLANDS

For grocery shopping near the Highlands, the closest Kroger to the Highlands is located at 1265 Goss Ave, Louisville, KY 40217. The closest Walmart to the Highlands is located at 3101 Poplar Level Rd, Louisville, KY 40213. Some of the most popular restaurants in the Highlands are the following: Jack Frys, Lillys, Dittos, Dragon King’s Daughter, The Monkey Wrench, Holy Grale, Roux, and El Camino. Bardstown Road has one of the most popular stretches of nightclubs and bars in Louisville. Here are a few of the bars on Bardstown Road: The Bambi Bar, Nowhere Bar, Cahoots Bar and Grill, Highlands Tap Room, Akikos, and Molly Malone’s Pub. Bardstown Road also has a number of consignment shops, boutiques, antique stores, vintage stores, and many other types of stores. A few of the stores on Bardstown Road are Hey Tiger, Rainbow Blossom Natural Markets, Nearly New Thrift Shop, Dundee Candy Shop, Doo-Wop Shop, and Leatherhead Shop Inc. The Highlands is only a few miles away from some of the largest shopping centers in Louisville: Oxmoor Mall, Saint Matthews Mall, and Westport Village. At Oxmoor Mall and Saint Matthews Mall, you will find more nationally known stores such as Gap, Express, Victoria Secret, etc. Westport Village has more locally-owned boutiques and restaurants.

SCHOOLS IN THE HIGHLANDS

The Highlands is in the Jefferson County Public School District. Here are a few of the public schools that are in the Highlands area: Bloom Elementary School, Engelhard Elementary School, Hawthorne Elementary School, Highland Middle School, Meyzeek Middle School, Atherton High School, and The Academy at Shawnee.
